Reggio Emilia
I am not a person but a city in the beautiful country of Italy. It was clear after World War II, by many parents in and around the villages of Reggio Emilia that their children need to learn in a new way. They felt that it is in the early years of a child’s development that they are forming as an individual. The parents felt that this new method needed to focus on the principles of respect, responsibility and community through allowing the child to explore and discover in a supportive and enriching environment. The parents also believed that the curriculum for this new method needed to be based on the child’s interests and through self-guided learning.
