Hello. My name is Johann Herbart. I was born in Oldenburg and went to school at the University of Jena. My beliefs stem from the analysis of experience. I do not believe that all concepts are separate mental ideas. Instead, I believe all mental activity results from interaction of elementary ideas. I think methods used in education should be based on psychology and ethics. You need psychology for the necessary knowledge and ethics should be used to determine the social ends of education.
The methods I developed still have a huge impact on modern-day education. These methods are based on the idea that the psychological processes should be used to devise educational programs based on the aptitudes, abilities and interests of students.
